Organizers Make SOS Call for State Parks
APTOS, Calif. - A statewide "SOS" signal is going up at parks and beaches in California this weekend.
Organizers are holding various events at parks threatened to be shut down in the wake of the state's $24 billion dollar deficit. One such event was held at Aptos' Seacliff State Beach, where volunteers manned a wireless connection on the sand for people to send emails to lawmakers.
"People think that it doesn't make sense," said Bonny Hawley, of Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks.
"Parks and beaches are a prime economic driver. It's also a way to have an affordable vacation with their family in down economic times."
