‘Castle Beach’ Celebration: Seabright State Beach

Celebrate community-driven effort to share the history of Castle Beach, a well-known earlier name for part of Seabright State Beach, with the installation of new bilingual interpretive signs and the replacement of the unique castle-shaped gate at the beach entrance.
Seabright State Beach used to be home to a castle, the Scholl-Mar Castle. The castle, built in 1929, welcomed visitors for almost 40 years, offering beach fun with everything from volleyball, umbrellas and a snack bar, to oceanview dining and hot saltwater baths.
The installation of the new signs and gate will be celebrated with a short program at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19. The public is invited to attend. Meet at the main Seabright State Beach entrance at Mott Avenue and East Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz.
