If the Santa Cruz Mountains could speak, imagine the stories they could tell about the peoples who have lived alongside them for over 14,000 years. Of this vast collection of stories, perhaps the most mysterious and misunderstood is that of California Shamanism. Who are shamans? What do shamans do? What is their role here in the Redwood forest? For this unique campfire, we will share stories of how first people came to be as well as the mystery of Grizzly Bear-Man. Traditional Ohlone herbal tea will be served. Meet at the campfire center, at Portola Redwoods State Park located in La Honda off Highway 35. From Highway 35, turn west onto Alpine Road, go three miles and then turn left onto Portola State Park Road.
