Join us at Castro Adobe State Historic Park for an open house event, “Vaqueros y Banditos (Cowboys and Bandits).” Located in Larkin Valley, near Watsonville, the two-story Castro Adobe, built between 1848-49, is one of the finest examples of a rancho hacienda in the Monterey Bay area. Open House visitors will be able to tour the property including the restored cocina (kitchen) and the Potter-Church Garden. The garden is a unique outdoor space originally created by then-owners Elizabeth and David Potter (1968-72), in consultation with noted landscape architect Thomas Church.

The Castro Adobe connects us to a time when cattle ranching was king on the coast of California. Get to know the tools of the cattle trade; listen to cowboy songs and tales of infamous bandits; relax in the beauty of our garden and ground with spring in full spring. We’ll skip rounding up the calves and go straight to the celebration with you as our guests.

Free admission (donations gratefully accepted). Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged. Active construction site, open only during scheduled events like this.
