144th Anniversary Celebration of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse
November 12, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join California State Parks and the Coastside State Parks Association for a celebration of the 144thanniversary of the Pigeon Point Light Station on Saturday, November 12 from 1-7 pm. From 1-5 pm there will be food trucks, live music, tours on the half hour, native plant sale, kids activities (scavenger hunt and crafts), and informational booths. Additionally, from 1-5 pm in the Visitor Center, maritime historian and author JoAnn Semones will be signing her books that regale the stories of the shipwrecks that gave birth to the lighthouses along the central California coast. Explore the informational booths to learn how our partner, Coastside State Parks Association, supports our education and interpretive efforts and how California State Parks Foundation is campaigning to restore the tower and return the lens to its rightful place.
The Visitor Center and park store will remain open through 7 pm to show off the First Order Fresnel Lens, the original lighthouse beacon.
Though we can’t “light the light” at the top of the tower, we can enlighten your day. We’re sure the day will be fun for the whole family. Please bring a flashlight and dress warmly. Event is free. The Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park is located on Highway 1, twenty miles south of Half Moon Bay and thirty miles north of Santa Cruz. For more information, please call the park at (650) 879-2120 or email Volunteers.PigeonPoint@Parks.CA.gov. Event is made possible by California State Parks and the Coastside State Parks Association.
